EMJM Janus: Funding your master’s degree

Financing a highly international programme like JANUS is a key part of your study project. This section provides self‑funded students with clear information on total costs, possible funding options and the main administrative steps to enrol.

Investing in your future: total program cost

A self‑funded student is a student who can cover both university fees and living expenses in Europe and in non‑EU host countries (Lebanon, United Kingdom) over the 24 months of the programme.

Tuition fees explained

Tuition fees amount to €18,000 in total (i.e. €9,000 per academic year), covering registration, teaching, library access and other mandatory administrative costs.

Planning your living expenses

In addition, self‑funded students must budget their living expenses (housing, food, transport, insurance, etc.) in each country of mobility; the overall financial effort is therefore spread over two years and several countries.

Funding options for self-funded students

Self‑funded students admitted to JANUS can combine different sources to finance their studies:

europe-stars

Erasmus+ Master Degree Loans:

In some countries, students may be eligible for an EU‑backed Erasmus+ loan to support part of their tuition and living costs; conditions depend on the student’s country of residence and the financial institution.

euro-label

National or institutional scholarships:

Candidates are encouraged to explore grants offered by their home universities, national agencies or foundations that support study abroad in security, defence or international relations.

family-aid

Personal, family or sponsor support:

Many self‑funded students rely on their own savings, family contributions, or support from employers and private sponsors to cover fees and living costs during the two‑year programme.

Self‑funded students follow exactly the same curriculum, mobility scheme and academic

Administrative procedures for self-funded students

Admitted self‑funded candidates must complete specific administrative procedures before starting the programme:

  • Self‑Financing Declaration: sign a formal declaration confirming the ability and commitment to pay the full tuition fees of the programme according to the payment schedule defined by the consortium.

  • Proof of financial resources: provide evidence of sufficient funding to cover tuition and living costs (e.g. recent bank statement, official scholarship/loan award letter, or a signed financial support letter from a guarantor). This proof may also be required for visa applications.

  • Visa and residence permits: obtain the necessary student visa and residence permits for each host country, following the instructions provided in the admission and pre‑arrival information sent by the JANUS coordination team.

Once these steps are completed, self‑funded students are fully enrolled in the EMJM JANUS Master and can benefit from all academic, administrative and mobility services offered by the consortium.
